Book Review – Risky Gospel by Owen Strachan (Nelson 2013)

December 31, 2013

The subtitle of Risky Gospel by Owen Strachan (Nelson, 2013), Abandoning Fear and Building Something Awesome suggested to me a book going beyond the standard Christian discipleship principles into “dangerous” territory, spiritually and perhaps physically. Unfortunately, the book disappoints the reader on this account and does not really add to the volumes of good theology books available.

Make no mistake about it, Strachan provides a solid theological worldview covering major aspects of the Christian’s faith – the source of a believer’s power, steps to building a stronger faith, building a family of faith, participating in a community of faith, making the workplace and your community a place of Gospel living and having an evangelistic witness. He covers them well and with some helpful practice advice. The books does not include many stories/illustrations and thus comes across quite academic.

Overall, a good read, but not unique among the many solid Christian discipleship texts.
